At its core, servant leadership is about GROWTH – the growth and well-being of PEOPLE as the vehicle for caring, healing, connection and positive transformative change in society. Growth is not linear and often comes from mistakes. Because people have lapses in judgment or perform in ways that are less than expected, there is a need to forgive.
Rarely is forgiveness in the top 10 leadership qualities. Yet, the ability of a leader to create a culture where it is safe to make mistakes, learn and grow could have the greatest impact on individual and team performance.
Robert Greenleaf said, “Anybody could lead perfect people — if there were any. But there aren’t any perfect people.”
Everybody makes mistakes. The servant-leader not only forgives; they help people grow.
